About The School
Bayero university Kano, Originally called Ahmadu Bello College, Bayero University Kano (BUK) was founded in 1960 and took its name from Ahmadu Bello, the Northern Nigerian Premier. It was constructed to help holders of senior secondary certificates get ready for the General Certificate Exam (G.C.E.) and the ‘A’ level in English literature, Arabic, Haus, Islamic history, and Islamic studies. It was renamed Abdullahi Bayero College in honour of Abdullahi Bayero, the Emir of Kano, after Ahmadu Bello University was founded in Zaria in 1962. Shortly after, it joined the Ahmadu Bello University faculty.
The Federal Government of Nigeria upgraded the institution to a full-fledged university in 1977, when it became Bayero University. In 1975, the institution was granted the status of a “University college,” allowing it to confer degrees on behalf of Ahmadu Bello University. In 1980, the University at Ahmadu Bello University dissolved as a Faculty. The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted formal accreditation to BUK’s courses and programs, which result in degrees that are recognized across a variety of fields, including bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees. With the goal of “leading in research and education in Africa,” the program has expanded from its original offerings of courses to include over 16 faculties, giving students the chance to design competitive and pertinent curricula.
