O’Level Subject Subject Combination For Optometry Course

To study Optometry in any university in Nigeria, it is required to have Five SSCE credit passes in English Language, Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

UTME Subjects Combination For Optometry Course

English Language is compulsory for all courses. The other three subjects required for Optometry under the Faculty of Faculty of Medical, Pharmaceutical and Health Sciencesin the institutions are:

Physics, Chemistry and Biology.


Direct Entry Requirements for Optometry

‘A’ level passes in Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Zoology.


Waiver For UTME Candidates

(i) IMSU accepts Maths in lieu of Physics.

Waiver For Direct Entry Candidates

(i) ABSU awards Doctor of Optomery (O.D).

(ii) ABSU accepts B.Sc in relevant fields, HND/ND of Ophthalmic and Dispensing.

(iii) IMSU – No Direct Entry.

(iv) FUTO requires at least three ‘A’ level passes not below Grade C in Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Zoology. It also accepts ND/HND (Upper Credit) in Optometry. Candidates must in addition meet UTME ‘O’ Level requirements. It accepts First Degree holders with a minimum of 2nd Class honours in health related disciplines. It does not accept NCE.
